THE OFFICIAL POLKA PARADE
Our wacky and wonderful Polka Parade kicks off the weekend on 119th Street. The route begins at Forsythe Park and ends at Atchison Avenue, just west of the festival’s main entrance.
With entries like the famous Lawnmower Brigade, the Pieroguettes and our lovely Buscias, this parade is a parody of a “traditional parade” with hilarious Region flair, led by Perennial Grand Marshal Steve Baskerville. It’s a must-see and a great kick-off to a crazy weekend of food, music and tongue-in-cheek silliness.
Want to march? Floats, bands, businesses and groups are welcome.

POLKA DANCE CONTEST

Grab a partner and show off your best polka. Live polka music on the plaza (in 2026: Gennie O & the Windy City Brass), with our Polish ambassador Polkahontas helping judge.
TRADITIONAL SLOVAK FOLK DANCERS
Saturday & Sunday afternoons · Oliver Stage
Folk ensembles in full traditional dress. In 2026: Vychodna Slovak Dancers (Toronto), Slovak Domovina Dancers (Windsor) and Veselica Slovak Folklore Ensemble (Chicago), presented by Baran Funeral Home. 2027 times will be posted on the schedule.
BUSCIA COOKING SHOW & MR. PIEROGI SONGFEST

PIEROGI TOSS & EATING CONTEST

How far can you throw a pierogi? How many can you eat? Contestants must register on the day of the contest at the Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce, 1417 119th Street. You must be 18 or older to enter the eating contest.

Mr. Pierogi®, Miss Paczki, the Buscias, Halupki Guy, Polkahontas and the Pieroguettes roam the fest all weekend. Look for them in the parade, on stage and in the crowd for selfies and high-fives. Meet the characters →
