Through photos and videos, the social media team will be featuring Whiting’s small businesses each Friday across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (during the fest, we’ll also push this content on these same accounts as well as Snapchat) with the hashtag #BehindTheTents to remind followers of the initiative and push them to visit our small businesses. It is the hope that this initiative will continue year round.

Opened in 2005, The Junkyard T-Shirt Shop owners Kathleen Ulm and Keely Schalk believe in the value small businesses bring to a community. "As small business for us we get to know our community customers and their families. We are a part of their lives through the shirts they buy from us as they celebrate birthdays or graduations or retirement. And we pride ourself on giving back to our community. Shopping at a small business should mean you are supporting a business who sponsors local events like a Lion's pancake breakfast, local little league teams, fundraisers when donations are needed."
